Russia’s Severstal, university to create new steel grade
MOSCOW, Feb 3 (PRIME) -- Russian steelmaker Severstal and the National University of Science and Technology MISiS plan to spend 340 million rubles to develop and set up commercial development of new grade of corrosion-resistant and cold-resistant steel Severkorr for oilfield pipelines, the university said in a statement Wednesday.
“The necessity to create a new grade of steel is connected with aspects of technologies of oil production at Russian fields. Now oilfield pipelines are working in conditions of a constant contact with a chemically active blend of oil and saline solutions. It means a short exploitation time and unforeseeable crashes, which are often followed by spills at large areas,” the university said.
